The Sacrament of the Eucharist

The Church Teaches:

The doctrine of the Eucharist is one of the most important tenets of Catholic faith. It is also the greatest of the sacraments.

At the consecration of the Mass the sacrament of Holy Eucharist comes into being. It is at that time that Jesus becomes present in the bread and the wine.

The act by which we then receive the Eucharist is called Holy Communion, when we become one with Christ.

First Holy Communion in Slane Parish

In preparation for First Eucharist, children in Second Class in the parish school, St. Patrick's National School here in Slane, follow the ‘Do this in Memory’ program. This is a sacramental preparation program, and guides the children (and their parents) towards the day of First Holy Communion. All Catholic children in the school follow this program.

The celebration of First Eucharist usually takes place in mid-May each year.
